Anno 1240 ...The Süss-Mühle is existing in the ground of the village Raschau since 1240. Used as a mill by the monks of the monastery Grünhain, old trades and basement vaults can be visited.
The mill is still in use. It is driven by a water wheel and a turbine. The pertinent watercourse extends 600 m through the village and starts at one of the oldest wood weir systems of Saxonia.
A water wheel with a diameter of 4 meters, reconstructed in 1994, can be seen in the inner court of the building. We offer visits and guidance througout the whole year. If it is requested we could also offer guidance in English or French. Concerts with the Meißner Porzellanglockenspiel can be booked at 20 persons. The Süss-Mühle is situated in the center of Raschau (B 101 between Aue and Annaberg), beside market place and school.
We look forward to your attendance!
Grist stone and roller frames are in a good and functional condition.
An exceptional rarity which can be visited and listened in the Süss-Mühle is the transportable"Meißner Porzellanglockenspiel"
The last master of the mill (Carl Süss) designed and constructed this instrument of 26 Meißner porcelain bells.
In 1952 he presented this instrument on a stage for the first time. Since 1983 it has been in possession of his daughter Hannelore Döscher, and will be presented on the concert floor in the mill as well as on other stages by her.
In the milling parlour which has approx. 140 seats at its disposal, you are invited to a unique sound experience.
